East Michigan Tourist Association collection, 1910-1990 1931-1958.

MS 90-320 consists of records of the East Michigan Tourist Association collection (covering the years 1910-1990, bulk of material dated 1931-1958). The collection contains significant and interesting materials connected with the social and economic role of tourism in Eastern Michigan. These documents are adequate for research in the early development of agriculture and animal husbandry in Eastern Michigan. Also, here are materials sufficient for research into the historic, administrative, and financial organizational history of the EMTA, as well as the Henry Alldrich Scholarship Fund, which existed to emphasize the importance of tourism and conservation among college students. Finally, a detailed collection of guides and photographs are present exhibiting many different tourist attractions in Eastern Michigan.

The history of the East Michigan Tourist Association (EMTA) can be traced back to Jan. 31, 1910, when its parent organization, the Northeastern Michigan Development Bureau was incorporated. Established primarily to find a use for cutover timber lands in the northeastern portion of the lower peninsula, the latter organization promoted the sale and use of agriculutral lands.
